Asbestos Management
Asbestos Management
Asbestos is a hazardous material that if incorrectly managed can be harmful, there is a legal duty to manage asbestos outlined by regulation 4 in the Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR 2012) this requires every non-domestic property to have an asbestos management plan. The duty lies with the building owners and managers to take reasonable steps to identifying the presence, condition and extent of asbestos within their buildings to formulate a management plan.
This asbestos management plan must contain up to date information about the presence of asbestos in the building and the condition that it’s in, Therefore, it is vital that the asbestos risk register is regularly updated on an annual basis as an absolute minimum.
The management plan can either be held as a paper copy or electronically which ever is easiest and must be made available to any trades or maintenance workers before work commences.
Reinspection Services
An asbestos re-inspection survey is designed to allow the duty holder to monitor and record the condition of any previously identified asbestos products within a building.
Like any building material, asbestos-containing materials are also subject to potential damage and degradation. As an asbestos product degrades it can be more likely to become a hazard to health, therefore should be inspected at regular intervals to ensure its condition has not deteriorated.
For a re-inspection survey to be undertaken, an existing survey or asbestos register should be in place.
Asbestos re-inspection surveys are designed to allow a competent person to monitor and record the condition of any previously identified asbestos products within a non-domestic building.
